Reading Time: < 1 minute

Last New Year’s Eve, tweets per second peaked at 3,000.

Let’s think about that for a bit.

3,000 tweets per second.

That’s 180,000 per minute.

This is still less than during the recent World Cup in Denmark though when users published a reported 3,283 tweets per second.

The above visualisation of tweets sent last New Years Eve was created using Polymaps. You can also see a video of the visualisation here.

I’m keen to see the figures for this evening’s New Years. Not just for Twitter, but other key channels, including Facebook and Instagram.

Are you planning to use social media to see in the new year? What channels?
